Hamilton dentist's priority — raise profile of importance of good oral health care

Hamilton, ON – Hamilton dentist Dr. Larry Levin has been elected President of the Ontario Dental Association, the professional association that represents more than 6,700 dentists practising in Ontario.

“Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of every Ontarian through better oral health care,” said Dr. Levin in his inaugural speech to members of the ODA. “We need people to know how important good oral health care is to their overall health – that’s my priority and I’m really looking forward to talking about this as I serve as President,” he said.

Dr. Levin’s involvement at the ODA began at the committee level in 1982 as a member of the Auxiliary Services Committee. He has also served on the Strategic Planning Task Force, Dental Hygiene Working Group, Audit Committee and two Governance Review Task Forces. Dr. Levin was elected to the ODA General Council representing the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry in 2000 and was elected to the ODA Board of Directors in 2003.

In addition to his service with the ODA, Dr. Levin has served in executive positions with the Ontario Society of Preventative Dentistry and the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International, and the American College of Dentistry.

In the community, Dr. Levin has been a Cub Leader and has participated on the Medical School Admissions Committee at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He has served on the Board of Education of the Hamilton Hebrew Academy, the Board and Executive of the Hamilton Jewish Federation and acted as Chair of the Hamilton Section of the United Jewish Appeal.

Dr. Levin graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1969 and is in general private practice in Hamilton.

Dr. Levin will serve as President of the Ontario Dental Association for 2008-2009.
